How CD Giveaway Works

It’s easy – any CD that is Up for Grabs is a CD that I have in my possession.  Simply comment on that CD’s post and I will give it to you.  If you suggest a certain album art, I will draw that even!  With each CD comes my memories, though, so be warned.

Dinosaur Jr – Hand It Over

I never gave this album the attention it deserves, but it is just fantastic. I think I’ve mentioned Dinosaur Jr’s strange vocals, but if you can get past the singer’s straining voice, you’ll find some well-written songs here. I am so surprised with how good this album is that I keep listening to it over and over. That’s a sure sign of something.

6/8

Morrissey – You Are the Quarry

Oh preachy Morrissey. I really liked The Smiths, so Morrissey’s solo album should have struck well with me. He’s less introspective on this album, which to me is less compelling. He’s older now, more mature, and I like it less that way. But he’s still a good songwriter, and his style is pretty much identical with his earlier years.

We Are Scientists – With Love and Squalor

What I remember most about We Are Scientists was their music video directed by a member of The Lonely Island. I remember watching the video with a college friend, in my formative years as a naïve nobody.

They sound like a band, a rock ‘n roll band specifically, and that’s really as much as I can say anymore. I guess I never really loved them for good reason, but I wanted to more than I did. Story of my life? Anyway: there are a few quite catchy songs on here – the rest generic as expected. Maybe it will be fun to you.

Soundgarden – Superunknown

I find it a little bit cute that the only Superunknown is the definitive Soundgarden.  I feel like there’s a reason they’re not known, and the reason is this album itself.  It is not great.

I do appreciate “Black Hole Sun,” and “Spoonman” is also tolerable, but the rest of the album is both forgettable and desirably so.  If it weren’t for those two songs, this metally mish-mosh of nothingness (which holds absolutely no memories whatsoever) would be much much worse.

3/8

Wilco – A Ghost Is Born

I’ve rarely listened to A Ghost Is Born, since my Wilco phase ended before it was released. It seems more electronic, especially since Wilco derived from such twangy roots, but Jeff’s voice is too noticeable to disregard. I wonder, though, if I’d be able to tell it was Wilco without his iconic voice.

Anyway, the album seems pretty nice and mellow, which is definitely a side of Wilco a lot of people expect. I think the album has an egg on the cover, so you know, eggs. Calm or whatnot. “Less Than You Think” has a somewhat annoying 10 minutes of wish-it-were-silence.

R.E.M. – Up [Duplicate]

Up some more.

This should be the last one for now.  There’s one more duplicate that I haven’t released either copy for, so we’ll wait on that.

Pink Floyd – Atom Heart Mother [Duplicate]

More mothers.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magik [Duplicate]

More blood.

Weezer – Weezer (The Blue Album) [Duplicate]

Weezer, already.

R.E.M. – Murmur [Duplicate]

An interesting predicament has appeared, where I’ve found additional copies of CDs I’ve already given away.  I assumed my memories were gone and then they just come right back, so I’ll have none of this.  If you missed these albums the first time, you are in luck.

Murmur, the first time.
