R.E.M. – Murmur
Here we are; album 50. This is kind of a landmark; I have given away nearly 50 albums and that’s pretty cool by me. So in celebration, I bring you with one of my most inspiring albums – Murmur.
R.E.M. was my favorite band up through middle school. Most of my life was spent listening to them, all thanks to my father. I didn’t start with Murmur (it was actually the first CD my father bought – pointless fact.), but I soon delved into it and loved every minute of it. If you are more familiar with the present R.E.M., this is far less electronic (in every way); it is a rock album, pure and simple.
The great thing about Murmur is that the songs don’t peter out for filler as many albums do; I think the catchiest songs are the last three. As much as I’d love to give this album the highest rating because of its place as 50th, and as perfect as this album is, I’m skeptical of my motives. It was one of my most inspiring R.E.M. albums, but not my favorite. It sure is amazing, though.
7/8
